Ronald McDonald House - Supplies & Sibling Kits
Capital City Civitan is committed to making a difference in the lives of those closest to us - the people in need within our own community in Raleigh and from across North Carolina, and even beyond!
Capital City Civitan members volunteered in the past with the Ronald McDonald House in Durham, North Carolina, which is a "home away from home" for families with children undergoing treatment at Durham hospitals. On a number of evenings, the club purchased meat for a meal and members donated side dishes and desserts so that it could be readily available for parents and patients staying at the Ronald McDonald House.
Now we work with the Ronald McDonald House at WakeMed in Raleigh, North Carolina. We have provided sibling bags for patients' brothers and sisters so that the time spent in waiting rooms can be less boring. Sibling bags vary a bit in contents depending on age, but generally include items like puzzles, books, journals, and other things that can be used quietly. With the expansion of the facility, we have also shopped for and delivered supplies from the Wish List.
We often spend time during our club social events at Christmas and Independence Day to assemble the sibling bags so that they can be delivered afterwards by one of our members. Here are some pictures of this project in stages . . .
